Grand Theft Auto has been around for so long that it’s only natural we’ve seen countless attempts for players to take their own spin on the title. Crime Boss: Rockay City was released earlier this year, promising a new action and crime-filled adventure to less than stellar reviews, but it’s now being dropped on current-gen consoles so those players can judge for themselves.
Rockay City launched on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S earlier today, complete with a 20 percent discount, only for PlayStation Plus members, that will be available through June 29, two weeks from today. Developer INGAME STUDIOS hopes this will encourage new players to give the game a shot, but the less-than-stellar reviews on Metacritic might be working against the game’s favor.
As seen in the trailer above, one of the game’s biggest calls to fame was that it had a large star-studded cast that included the likes of Danny Trejo, Vanilla Ice, Danny Glover, and more. Even this stellar performance couldn’t keep it from being panned for not being particularly interesting. It seems like a watered-down version of the series that it takes inspiration from.
It costs $40 before tax if you don’t have PlayStation Plus, which will give you an $8 discount. As previously stated, though, you’ll need a PlayStation Plus subscription, which has a base price of $10, so it’s worth it just to get the game at full price if you don’t already have an active subscription. Xbox players get the base discount when purchasing on that platform.
